PROFILE
Multi award winning and dynamic Akwele Suma GLORY is one of the few but growing female artists living and working in Ghana. Primarily a painter but works in a large variety of media.
From a journalistic background, she switched to fine art to satisfy her desire to express herself naturally. Her primary quest is what will make people pay new attention to life. She also captures the essentials of life and reduces them to the barest for the benefit of society.
Though trained at residency workshops and had instructions from the studios of master artists, like the famous German artist Werner Reister, Kossi Assou-Togo, and Chris Charway-Ghana, she is largely self taught. her works are produced from a place in the spirit that is full of joy, amazement and gratitude. She has distinguished herself in ethnic jewellery design for over a decade, and through the process of research and experimentation, she has developed a unique works of art.
Area of Work
She is a linguist and a trainer of single mothers for economic empowerment,
Second Coordinator, Treasurer and Secretary Art in Aktion-Ghana,
Co-initiator and Convenor-Women Artist Institute.
Founding Member Foundation for Contemporary Arts.
She exhibits her works both locally and internationally and her works have been collected in private and public places both at home and abroad
